THE GOD WHO SPEAKS!
THINK ABOUT IT
Many times in the Bible, we read the words, “Thus says the LORD” or “The LORD says” or “The word of the LORD came unto…” or “The LORD spoke” especially in the Old Testament. I don’t know how you all feel, when you read such words, but I feel a certain joy welling from deep within my heart. I am sure it is the case with many of you too.
How wonderful it is to know that, the LORD God Almighty, the God of all creation, the God of the Bible, is Someone who likes to speak with us, His creation. Yes, our God is “THE GOD WHO SPEAKS!”
– “1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds;” – Hebrews 1:1-2
Our LORD speaks to us, and it tells us that He cares about us. It also tells us that God communicates with us what is in His heart. The LORD speaks to every need of ours. We need to read the Bible to know all what He wants to speak to us and our situations.
– “If we want to hear God speak to us, we must develop our relationship with Him by spending time with Him.” – T. L. Lowery
Here under are seven different situations, where the LORD had spoken to us in the Bible. When we hear and obey all what the LORD speaks with us, it helps us and blesses us.
I- GOD SPEAKS words of COMFORT
– “1 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me.” – John 14:1
II- GOD SPEAKS words of STRENGTH
– “1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Saviour…” – Isaiah 43:1-3
III- GOD SPEAKS words of ENCOURAGEMENT
– “10 Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.’” – Isaiah 41:10
IV- GOD SPEAKS words of REST and RESTORATION
– “28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30
V- GOD SPEAKS words of APPRECIATION
– “4 Since you were precious in My sight, You have been honored, And I have loved you; Therefore I will give men for you, And people for your life. 5 Fear not, for I am with you; I will bring your descendants from the east, And gather you from the west;” – Isaiah 43:4-5
VI- GOD SPEAKS words of CORRECTION
– “1 The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying, 2 “Stand in the gate of the LORD’s house, and proclaim there this word, and say, ‘Hear the word of the LORD, all you of Judah who enter in at these gates to worship the LORD!’ ” 3 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Amend your ways and your doings, and I will cause you to dwell in this place. 4 Do not trust in these lying words, saying, ‘The temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD, the temple of the LORD are these.’ 5 “For if you thoroughly amend your ways and your doings, if you thoroughly execute judgment between a man and his neighbor, 6 if you do not oppress the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place, or walk after other gods to your hurt, 7 then I will cause you to dwell in this place, in the land that I gave to your fathers forever and ever. 8 “Behold, you trust in lying words that cannot profit.” – Jeremiah 7:1-8
VII- GOD SPEAKS words of WARNINGS
– “21 Thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: “Add your burnt offerings to your sacrifices and eat meat. 22 For I did not speak to your fathers, or command them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices. 23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’ 24 Yet they did not obey or incline their ear, but followed the counsels and the dictates of their evil hearts, and went backward and not forward. 25 Since the day that your fathers came out of the land of Egypt until this day, I have even sent to you all My servants the prophets, daily rising up early and sending them. 26 Yet they did not obey Me or incline their ear, but stiffened their neck. They did worse than their fathers. 27 “Therefore you shall speak all these words to them, but they will not obey you. You shall also call to them, but they will not answer you. 28 “So you shall say to them, ‘This is a nation that does not obey the voice of the LORD their God nor receive correction. Truth has perished and has been cut off from their mouth.” – Jeremiah 7:21-28
GOD SPEAKS to COMFORT, STRENGTHEN, ENCOURAGE, RESTORE, APPRECIATE, CORRECT and WARN us. May we have the ears to hear the voice of the LORD our God.
– “15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” – Matthew 11:15
– “13 “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.”’ – Revelation 3:13
God of the Bible, the LORD God Almighty is not in the habit of chit-chatting, nor speaking useless things, with no purpose and substance whatsoever. God speaks with definite purpose, and with clear intent. He speaks to help us through our lives, so that we may find strength, courage and inspiration to live for the LORD, and not lose our heart and give up. Let us pay attention to all what our LORD is speaking. May we make serious effort to know all what the LORD is speaking with us, with a heart to obey. Even so, the LORD help us.
"When God speaks, he does not give new revelation about himself that contradicts what he has already revealed in Scripture. Rather, God speaks to give application of his Word to the specific circumstances in your life. When God speaks to you, he is not writing a new book of Scripture; rather, he is applying to your life what he has already said in his Word."
