The nature or the character of any person is revealed in the way they conduct themselves. Our conduct is visible in our words and deed. The words we speak, and the deeds we display are a sure and clear mirror to who we actually are deep within.
Good people will not hide their character. If there are any flaws, they in all likelihood would be transparent about it. However, the evils d the wicked ones, will pretend to be someone else. They will do their best to cover their evilness with all kinds of niceties and sweet smelling acts. It is a deliberate distraction to divert the attention always from their evil character. However, no one is so cunning and clever to cover their evil and wicked nature permanently.
As Christians we are called to build our character upon the nature and the character of our LORD Jesus. He is our role model and the standard to which we are called to compare. The question someone may want to ask is, “Who is our God?” “What is His character?” “How does He conduct Himself?” Let us look at some Scripture portions to know who our God is.
– 8 Good and upright is the LORD; Therefore He teaches sinners in the way. 9 The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way. 10 All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth, To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.” – Psalm 25:8-10
– “9 God is faithful, by whom ye were called unto the fellowship of his Son Jesus Christ our Lord.” – 1 Corinthians 1:9
– “3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.” – 2 Thessalonians 3:3
– “21 This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope. 22 It is of the LORD’s mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not. 23 They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness. 24 The LORD is my portion, saith my soul; therefore will I hope in him. 25 The LORD is good unto them that wait for him, to the soul that seeketh him. 26 It is good that a man should both hope and quietly wait for the salvation of the LORD. 27 It is good for a man that he bear the yoke in his youth.” – Lamentations 3:21-27
– “6 And the LORD passed before him and proclaimed, “The LORD, the LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abounding in goodness and truth, 7 keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, by no means clearing the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children and the children’s children to the third and the fourth generation.” – Exodus 34:6-7
What can we learn about God from His written Word? Here is what I have gleaned. There is so much more to know about God than what is below. Our ability to comprehend is little and finite, hence our grasp of who God is would naturally be limited to all what He actually is.
– The LORD is faithful and just in all His dealings.
– The LORD is faithful to save us from our sins.
– The LORD is faithful to save us from the consequences of our sins.
– The LORD is faithful to sustain us through every situation that may fall upon us.
– The LORD is just and fair in all His workings.
– Everyone who continues to remain sinful and unjust in all their dealings will be judged justly and fairly by the LORD.
– They will get what they have earned by their doings.
– The LORD will not let go anyone without being justly and fairly judged.
As we walk through our journey in this life, we see all kinds of things, and all kinds of people.
– We see sinners, violent and wicked people prosper with unrestrained impunity.
– We see those who desire to live for the LORD Jesus are subjected to trials and testings. In some cases, severely.
– However the matter that should concern us is the fact that God is righteous, faithful, just and fair. He will take care of everything.
Let us not fret about anything. Let us not get disturbed about anyone. Let us not be discouraged and disheartened. God in His time will judge everything justly and fairly. Meanwhile, “1…let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith…” [Hebrews 12:1b-2a.] Even so, the LORD help us.
"'Good and upright is the LORD' - The declaration of God's goodness and uprightness is foundational to understanding His character. In the Hebrew context, "good" (טוֹב, tov) implies moral excellence and benevolence, while "upright" (יָשָׁר, yashar) suggests righteousness and integrity. This aligns with the consistent biblical portrayal of God as holy and just (Isaiah 6:3, Deuteronomy 32:4). The goodness of God is a recurring theme throughout the Psalms, emphasizing His kindness and mercy (Psalm 145:9). The uprightness of God assures believers of His fairness and justice, as seen in His dealings with Israel and the nations (Psalm 9:8). This dual attribute of God is a comfort to the faithful, knowing that His actions are always in accordance with His perfect nature."
