WISDOM FROM GOD – “THE CURSE OF THE LORD IS IN THE HOUSE OF THE WICKED”

The LORD utterly abhors wickedness, oppression, violence and evil. He detests the wicked, the oppressor, the violent and the evil person, persons, groups, and nations. The Word of God makes this abundantly clear. There are no two thoughts in this.

The LORD doesn’t want such things even to be named among His “Chosen People” because we are His children and His ambassadors – Ephesians 5:1-5. In simpler words, who we are as Christians is a reflection of who God is. 

Since the LORD God Almighty is good, gracious and holy; the same is expected of us, as His “Chosen People” and His children. The character that we display is nothing but the fruit of our hearts, its desires, its intent and its motives. 

Let us read Proverbs 3:33-35 for our study this morning. These are the last three verses of Proverbs chapter three. They are like the summing up of the whole chapter. As in the rest of the chapter, the parallel is drawn between the good and the bad, the wicked and the righteous. They speak about God’s heart, His likes and dislikes. They also inform us about the consequences of the choices we make in our lives.
– “33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. 34 Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. 35 The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.” – Proverbs 3:33-35

1- The LORD ABOUT the WICKED, the SCORNERS and the FOOLS
The words which the LORD speaks about the evil people are all too obvious. The LORD utterly detests them, and the consequences of their lives are always catastrophic to them, and to all around them…unquestionably…always.
– “33 The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked…”
– “34 Surely he scorneth the scorners…”
– “35…but shame shall be the promotion of fools.”

2- The LORD ABOUT the JUST, the LOWLY, the WISE
The words which the LORD speaks about the just and the good are all too obvious. The LORD loves them, and the consequences of their lives are always a blessing to them, and to all around them…unquestionably…always.
– “33…but he blesseth the habitation of the just.”
– “34…but he giveth grace unto the lowly.”
– “35 The wise shall inherit glory…”

The contrast is simple, clear and easy to understand. On the one side is a man who wishes to walk in his own ways; does all what he desires to do unhindered. This life is built upon the fallible, fragile, ego-centric and ego-pleasing principles, values and ethics, which the world espouses and promotes passionately. The consequences of such a life is all too obvious in the above verses from Proverbs 3:33-35, and as found in the whole chapter three of Proverbs.

On the other side is a man who desires wholeheartedly to walk on the way of the LORD…as laid out in the Bible…despite his inadequacies. Such a life is built upon the precious and priceless principles, values and ethics prescribed in the Bible, by the LORD God Almighty, our Creator, the LORD Jesus Christ. The consequences of such a life is all too obvious in the above verses from Proverbs 3:33-35, and as found in the whole chapter three of Proverbs.

– The above contrasting parallel is on the lines of the “Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builder” where the two builders build their lives – one by obeying the LORD, and the other by disobeying God Almighty, which the LORD Jesus spoke about in Matthew 7:24-27.
– The second parallel we find in the Bible is on the lines of the “Judgement of Christians” by the LORD Jesus, where our lives are weighed and judged by the LORD Himself, about what material we use – gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay or straw – to build our lives, as found in 1 Corinthians 3:12-15.
– The final parallel we find in the Bible is on the lines of the “Judgement and the Seperation of the Sheep and the Goats” by the LORD Jesus, as part of the final judgement of all the people of the world, as found in Matthew 25:31-45

The consequences of the choices one makes in this life are of eternal in nature. As Christians and the “Called Out People” let us earnestly seek the LORD to help us live a live which is pleasing to the LORD Jesus, and that which brings glory and honour to Him. Even so, the LORD help us.
