YOU SHALL BE MY WITNESSES – IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON

The LORD Jesus Christ, as He was ascending up into heaven, He spoke His last words on earth, to the disciples. These words take, not only a very special place, but also are the most important and very significant of all what he had taught the disciples, including all of us today.
– “8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” 9 Now when He had spoken these things, while they watched, He was taken up, and a cloud received Him out of their sight.” – Acts 1:8-9

The point that we need to grasp and realise is that, we, as the disciples of the LORD Jesus, are called to be His witnesses in this world. This is the primary task, responsibility and duty of every Christian man and woman – BEING THE WITNESSES OF THE LORD JESUS. Let us look at some other Scripture portions to see and verify if this is so.
– “18 And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.” “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.” “19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.” – Matthew 28:18; Mark 16:15; Matthew 28:19b-20
– “9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light;” – 1 Peter 2:9
– “17 Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 18 Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, 19 that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation. 20 Now then, we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God were pleading through us: we implore you on Christ’s behalf, be reconciled to God.” – 2 Corinthians 5:17-20

The above scripture portions make it amply clear, and necessitate us, the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ to be His witnesses all our lives, and are to preach the gospel in season and out of season.
– “​1 I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: 2 Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.” – 2 Timothy 4:1-2

We are called to be the witness of the LORD Jesus, and the preaching of the gospel is our full time work. Some of us work in secular field for various reasons. However ALL OF US ARE FULL-TIME WORKERS – the disciples – of the LORD Jesus Christ.
– “13 “You are the salt of the earth…14 “You are the light of the world…16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13a,14a,16

The gospel is the testimony of God’s LOVE, FORGIVENESS, GRACE and MERCY towards a lost world. We as the LORD Jesus’ disciples are to spread this message of LOVE, FORGIVENESS, GRACE and MERCY to the whole world.

Dear brothers and sisters, are we on the “business” of PREACHING THE GOSPEL AT ALL TIMES – IN SEASON AND OUT OF SEASON? Let us pause and ponder our state and our situation. Let us be honest in evaluating ourselves, our hearts and its motives in following the LORD Jesus Christ. Even so the LORD help us.
