There is an old English proverb which says, “Excess of anything is good for nothing.” Simply means, even a good thing can become bad for us, if overdone.
It is in our interest, and it makes perfect sense to avoid anything and everything that may destroy our harmony and communion with the LORD, our life and our future. Good to leave it, even if it is our dream. Sometimes, our talents and abilities that we possess can become a hindrance for our Christian walk. Our dream and our talents should help us become better, and not end up being destroyed.
A mundane and mediocre life is better than a life destroyed, and not much of use to anyone, beginning with you…above all to the LORD our God.
The Bible has some valuable inputs for us, on this matter.
BAD THINGS
“30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and cast it from you; for it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell.” – Matthew 5:30
GOOD THINGS
“8 For bodily exercise profiteth little: but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is, and of that which is to come.” – 1 Timothy 4:8
PURPOSE OF ALL THAT WE DO
“31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31
“17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.” – Colossians 3:17
“11 If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” – 1 Peter 4:11
NOT ALL THINGS HELP
“23 “All things are lawful,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful,” but not all things build up. 24 Let no one seek his own good, but the good of his neighbor.” – 1 Corinthians 10:23-24
Therefore, let us be mindful, and if required, cut off anything and everything that hinders us in our walk with the LORD.
"Whoever has Christ in his heart, so that no earthly or temporal things — not even those that are legitimate and allowed — are preferred to Him, has Christ as a foundation. But if these things be preferred, then even though a man seem to have faith in Christ, yet Christ is not the foundation to that man"
