As human beings with finite minds and limited grasp of things, we fail to comprehend the greatness and the vastness of the One True God, the God of all creation. We don’t have to look too far to understand this struggle. We can look into our hearts and we will realise that we have not only not grasped the vastness and the greatness of God, but have also forgotten many of the things that He had done in our lives this far. Is this not true?
The one who wrote Psalm 126 seems to be among the few who chose to remember all what God had done in his life. We know this from verse three.
– “3 The LORD has done great things for us, And we are glad.” – Psalm 126:3
The Psalmist is doing four things in the above verse.
1- He is acknowledging that great things have happened in his life.
2- He is ascribing those great things to the YAHWEH, the LORD God Almighty.
3- He is choosing to praise God for His goodness, grace and mercy towards him, when he says “we are glad!”
4- By all what he had said, the Psalmist is acknowledging human frailty and the necessity of God’s intervention and involvement in our daily life, without which man would utterly fail.
The Bible encourages us through others instances recorded for us, to REALISE, RECOGNISE, REMEMBER and REJOICE in the LORD for all what He has graciously done for us.
– “24 Only fear the LORD, and serve Him in truth with all your heart; for consider what great things He has done for you.” – 1 Samuel 12:24
– “49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me, And holy is His name.” – Luke 1:49
– “1 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvellous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.” – Psalm 98:1
How about us this morning, dear brothers and sisters? Do we see the invisible hand of God our Creator and Redeemer working in our lives? Do we see the heart and the hand of God shaping us and helping us in our walk as a Christian? Let us pause this morning to look back and see the heart and the hand of the LORD Jesus in our lives. Let us acknowledge it; and let us unceasingly praise and thank Him for His goodness, grace, mercy and unconditional love the undeserving people like us. Even so, the LORD Jesus help us.
"Reflect on the "great things" God has done in your life. Acknowledge His hand in both the big and small blessings. Understand that true joy comes from recognizing and celebrating God's work in our lives. Cultivate a heart of gratitude and joy. Remember that God's faithfulness in past trials is a promise of His continued presence and help in current and future challenges."
