Questions form an important and integral part of learning and progress. However, if one is not careful and wise while asking the question, we can put ourselves, and others, in great trouble. Sadly, this is what had happened with the Wisemen from the East.
“1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem, 2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him. 3 When Herod the king had heard these things, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him.” – Matthew 2:1-3
A simple, innocent, may be an ignorant question from the Wisemen, deeply troubled Herod the king, and also all of Jerusalem. The consequences of such a “troubled” heart were terrible and devastating to many a family…
“16 Then Herod…was exceeding wroth, and sent forth, and slew all the children that were in Bethlehem, and in all the coasts thereof, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had diligently enquired of the wise men.” – Matthew 2:16.
Let us learn to be wise while asking questions. Also, if someone asks us a question, let us not be insecure and feel inferior, while facing that question, and respond insensitively and irrationally. Insecurity and inferior thinking is a sure sign of weak people.
"Pride is a by-product of insecurity. And the more insecure a person is, the more monuments they need to build. There is a fine line between ‘Thy kingdom come’ and ‘my kingdom come.’ If you cross the line, your relationship with God is self-serving. You aren’t serving God. You are using God. You aren’t building altars to God. You are building monuments to yourself."
