Let us read, as the last in this series, Proverbs 11:9, and see what it has to teach us this morning.
– “9 The hypocrite with his mouth destroys his neighbour, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered.”
The hypocrite, as found in verse 9, is full of schemes and plans, to push himself at any cost. He has, as his agenda, the destruction of his neighbour, so that there is no rival, and he stands tall. Like they say, “Blowing the candles of others, so that you alone shine.”
Hypocrites are utterly shameless, and they keep trying again and again, to get what they want. That is why they are shameless.
The hypocrite is right beside us, but he is always plotting and scheming, as to how he would throw down others, and destroy their reputation and their lives. He is sleepless and restless, till he does what he wants. His choice weapon is his tongue. He would talk sweetly, but it is a sharp knife, generously laced with sweetest honey. Beware of such people. Learn to identify them, as quickly as possible, and be as far away as possible, from such.
The safety of the “righteous” is in being wise and judicious. It is the wisdom and knowledge that comes to our rescue. Sadly, both don’t come without some bitter and painful experiences. This is called the experiential knowledge. May we always be, alert and awake, to the wiles and the guiles of the wicked hypocrites.
The world has plenty of them. The Church is being crowded by such, as the days pass by. It is easier to identify the hypocrite in the world, compared to such, in the Church, and among Christian circles.
May the LORD help us to keep our eyes and ears open, with our mind on alert, to see the danger afar off, and take corrective measures, to avoid being deceived and duped, by the hypocrites. Even so the LORD help us.
"When are Christian folks going to remember that every time you call yourself a Christian, you invoke the name of God, and that if you then walk a walk that does not reflect the presence of Christ in your life, cast a vote that does not reflect the presence of Christ in your life, then you are taking the name of the Lord your God in vain?"
