The modern life is flushed with many good and great things. Whatever material lacking that was suffered by the previous generation, is not the problem any more. Whoever wants to work and earn a decent living, has an opportunity to work. Whoever works hard and smart, has great prospects to come up in life. This is the modern life.
However, all is not going well for the modern man. The biggest loser in the modern life is the breakdown of human relationships, and the restless human being. Relationships and rest are one of the two major lackings. This has been the case, all through our history, and this has never been so acutely felt in the past, as it is now. This is the reality of modern life.
The words of Jesus, found in Matthew 11:28-30, which were spoken more than 2000 years ago, has relevance to us, even in this age and time – “28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” – Matthew 11:28-30.
The words of Jesus reflect His heart, His care for us and our welfare, and the cure, that He and He alone can offer. Jesus is offering a wholesome relationship, and a rejuvenating rest. We can never find such a proposition in anything or anyone else. The relationship that Jesus offers to us, ushers in the peace and the rest. However, we have to fully and wholeheartedly dive in. Half-hearted and feeble attempts wouldn’t bear any fruit. This is the truth about what Jesus has to offer.
May we find Jesus and our rest. May the LORD help us.
"No soul can be really at rest until it has given up all dependence on everything else and has been forced to depend on the Lord alone. As long as our expectation is from other things, nothing but disappointment awaits us."
