Just as our bodies need energy and strength, to live our lives, so also our spiritual lives. If fact, the strength from our spiritual life has a great bearing on our physical life. As Christians, where does our strength and help comes from? Psalm 121 has the answer for us.
Psalm 121, is one of those Psalms which most Christians read and remember. It is titled as “God the Help of Those Who Seek Him” by the New King James Version. *God helps all those who seek Him, sincerely.* How wonderful it is have the very God of all creation, the LORD God Almighty, to be the source of all our help!!!
The Psalmist begins with a question, and answers it himself. He doesn’t wait for the answer, because, he knows the answer.
– “1 I will lift up my eyes to the hills – From whence comes my help? 2 My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth.”
The Psalmist then goes on to describe God, and how He protects us. How comforting it is to know and realise, that God is concerned about us, at all the times!
– “3 He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. 4 Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.”
Verses five and six are a double reassurance to the Psalmist, and also to us, about God’s immeasurable goodness and grace – He is our Keeper!!!
– “5 The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade at your right hand. 6 The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night.”
The Psalmist finally concludes the Psalm, with these reassuring words of strength and comfort, that would give all who trust the LORD God Almighty, the courage to face life, confidently. The responsibility to care for us, provide all we need, and protect us from all harm and danger, is the LORD’s, therefore, we don’t need to worry about anything.
– “7 The LORD shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. 8 The LORD shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
Where does our help comes from? Is God of the Bible the source of all our strength? All who make Jesus as their Saviour, will have Him for their Supplier and Sustainer, for life and beyond. “HE IS MY STRENGTH, AND MY ALL” – what about you?
"...nothing either of the day or night can harm us if God is keeping guard. God is our covering against every calamity. He is our shade against the visible perils of the day as well as the hidden perils of the night."
