The Bible talks about praising God at all times. The reason being, all that God has done, is doing and will do for us. “16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.” – 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18. Over the years, many hymns and songs on praise are composed in praise of God. Have you sung any of the songs listed here? “Praise Him praise Him…in the morning…noon time and when the sun goes down…” and “Praise God from whom all blessings flow…” and “Great is Thy faithfulness…” Praising God is an essential and integral part of a Christian’s life.
Let us look at Psalm 148, which has a wonderful approach to this subject of praising God. In verses 1-4 the author of the Psalm urges the heavens, the sky, the sun, moon and stars to praise God… “1 Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; Praise Him in the heights! 2 Praise Him, all His angels; Praise Him, all His hosts! 3 Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you stars of light! 4 Praise Him, you heavens of heavens, And you waters above the heavens!”
In verse 5-6 the reason for the creation to praise God is given… “5 Let them praise the name of the LORD, For He commanded and they were created. 6 He also established them forever and ever…”
In verses 7-12 the psalmist urges the earth, and all that is in it, including human beings, both men and women, and the kings, to praise God… “7 Praise the LORD from the earth, You great sea creatures and all the depths…11 Kings of the earth and all peoples; Princes and all judges of the earth; 12 Both young men and maidens; Old men and children.”
In verses 13-14 the reason for them to praise God is stated… “13 Let them praise the name of the LORD, For His name alone is exalted; His glory is above the earth and heaven…14…Praise the LORD!”
How is our “Praise Life?” How many times do we praise God in a day? What kind of praise comes through our mouths each day? What type of events and incidents do we consider as praise worthy? How about the life we have, and the food, shelter and clothing that the LORD so graciously and generously provided us with, as a list to start with? Please pause and ponder about what we are praising God for?
"We learn to praise God not by paying compliments but by paying attention."
