“IF I HAD A THOUSAND LIVES” – WHAT WOULD WE DO? What would we do??? Whether we have, a thousand lives or not, is not the point of the matter. It is, what are we wanting, deep down in our hearts, for the life, that God Almighty has, so generously, gifted us with. Not only our life is a gift, but each new day that we see and enjoy, are gracious gifts from our Creator. Therefore, the question “What would we want to do with that life that is gifted to us?”
The Bible makes it amply clear, about the direction, we should be going. The LORD speaks His heart, for the people of Israel, and effectively to all of us, as Christians.
– “3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” – Psalms 100:3
– “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.” – Deuteronomy 6:5
– “Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” – Matthew 5:16
– “But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.” – James 1:22
– “So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” – 1 Corinthians 10:31
– “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” – Romans 11:36
The above verses makes it crystal clear, that we are created by God, and we are to love Him, with all that we have; live for Him, as His disciples and ambassadors, all the days of our lives; honour Him, in and through all things that we do – thought, word and deed.
Charlotte Digges “Lottie” Moon, from Georgia, USA, is a Southern Baptist missionary to China, who spent nearly 40 years, living and working in China. On 07 October, 1873, Lottie Moon arrives in China, with a desire and a prayer, unlike many of us…
– “If I had a thousand lives, I would give them all for the women of China.”
“Lottie” Moon, after accepting Jesus Christ at the age of 18, worked as a teacher around Georgia, USA. However, deep within her heart, she felt a strong calling of God, to serve the people of China. Finally, at the age of 32, Lottie leaving everything she owned, boards a ship to China, to share the Gospel with the people there.
Despite many difficulties and struggles on personal front, she was steadfast in her commitment to live for her Saviour, as His disciple, witness and ambassador. History records that, she gave away as much of her food as possible, feeding hundreds of starving people. In one of her bank books, this note was found, which speaks of her struggles, and also her determination to live for He Redeemer.
– “I pray that no missionary will ever be as lonely as I have been.”
What would we do, if we had a thousand lives to live? Would we consider living and serving God, who so graciously gave His life for our redemption? Would we say like Charlotte Digges “Lottie” Moon…
– “If I had a thousand lives, I would give them all for the women of China.”
May the LORD help us to live for Him, and for His glory, all the days of our lives.
"It is he [God] that hath made us — Not only by creation, but by regeneration, which is also called a creation, because by it we are made his people. Hence we owe him homage and service, and him only...He, and he only, hath an incontestable right to, and in us, and all things. His we are, to be influenced by his power, disposed of by his will, and devoted to his honour and glory."
