God our Creator and our Redeemer, wants us, His disciples, to imitate Him. ‘IMITATE’ means, to simply do what the LORD has done…follow Him in His footsteps, just as He walks before us.
The apostle Paul, writing to the Christians at Ephesus, urges them – “1 Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.” – Ephesians 5:1-2
If we understand the passage, this is what it says…
1- BE IMITATORS of GOD
2- WALK IN LOVE as CHRIST
3- CHRIST LOVED US
4- GAVE HIMSELF UP FOR US
5- CHRIST OFFERED HIMSELF AS A FRAGRANT OFFERING and SACRIFICE
The Word of God desires and demands us, to walk as Christ walked – the path of love, where Christ, willingly and gladly gave himself up, as an offering and sacrifice, out of His love for the unworthy and undeserving people – that is you and me. We are called, to simply do the same.
“6 whoever says he abides in him ought to walk in the same way in which he walked.” – 1 John 2:6. This is neither simple nor easy. But that is what we are called to be, the “IMITATORS OF GOD.” So God help us.
"Jesus has always many who love His heavenly kingdom, but few who bear his cross. he has many who desire consolation, but few who care for trial. He finds many to share His table, but few to take part in His fasting. All desire to be happy with Him; few wish to suffer anything for Him."
