David, whenever he writes, there is absolute clarity of thought. There is no confusion, nor any uncertainty in his writings. This speaks of David’s mind, and his thinking ability. No wonder he is considered the greatest king of the nation.
Another aspect that comes out clearly, in regards to David, is his ability to inspire and lead. All through the recorded history about David, we see many brave and mighty men followed him, and gladly accepted his leadership. Small wonder then, his clarity of thought, and his ability to inspire and lead people, had made David the greatest ever Jewish king.
A glimpse of how David sees himself, and his ability to lead others, is seen in 2 Samuel 23:3-4 – “3 The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me, He that ruleth over men must be just, ruling in the fear of God. 4 And he shall be as the light of the morning, when the sun riseth, even a morning without clouds; as the tender grass springing out of the earth by clear shining after rain.”
David again is very clear – “The God of Israel said, the Rock of Israel spake to me….” The words, the thoughts and the principles on leadership, that he is about to write, are given to him by YAHWEH Himself. The qualities, traits and personality of leader are very clearly described, with their intended purpose, and the benefits to those being ruled. The imagery emolyed by David, to describe who a leader is, speaks clearly about the leader, his leadership, and about the attitude a leader should have.
How are our leaders today? Do we see any resemblance? What kind of leadership model are we personally following? Are we anywhere close to the leadership pattern give by the LORD? May the LORD help us to be the leader, shaped in the mould, that God intends for His people – Servant Leaders who will want “to serve, and not to be served.”
"As David looked back over his life and reign, he was struck by the great need for rulers to exercise justice. He knew this because he had seen the goodness of justice provided and the curse of justice denied."
