Worship is the central aspect of our faith. We who are created by God, and are now doubly owned by our Creator, are to worship the LORD. Worship for a Christian should come naturally for all what the LORD had done for us, and is still doing, and will do in the days to come.
– “1 Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! 2 Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. 3 Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. 4 Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name.” – Psalm 100:1-4
Now, what do we mean by worship? Does it mean going to the Church? Does it mean singing songs in praise of God? Does it mean listening to the sermon? Does it mean, reading our Bibles and praying to God? Does it mean to give our tithes? All the above are good things, and we should be doing them. However, worship is much more than the things listed above.
Worship is very simple and uncomplicated. Worshipping God means, to love the LORD with all our hearts, and to walk in obedience to Him, and all that He is asking of us.
– “12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee, but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good?” – Deuteronomy 10:12-13
– “8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” – Micah 6:8
The LORD is not interested in our offerings, nor our money. It is of no use for the LORD of all Creation. It is pharisaical to think on those lines. Pity, there are many who think on those lines.
– “22 So Samuel said: “Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. 23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry…” – 1 Samuel 15:22-23
– “6 For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings.” – Hosea 6:6
– “16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering. 17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart – These, O God, You will not despise.” – Psalm 51:16-17
How about us, this LORD’s Day? What is our attitude and our mindset, when going to the Church? What are we thinking about worshipping the LORD? What about our heart, our attitude and our motives?
– “23 But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. 24 God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.” – John 4:23-24
Come let us worship our God, the LORD God Almighty, our King and our Redeemer. Even so the LORD help us.
"Worship has been misunderstood as something that arises from a feeling which "comes upon you," but it is vital that we understand that it is rooted in a conscious act of the will, to serve and obey the Lord Jesus Christ."
