The LORD Jesus, spoke a lot about the Kingdom of God – “35…Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom…” – Matthew 9:35
The Kingdom of God is, the rule of God, in which righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Spirit are the pillars on which it stands. “17 for the kingdom of God is…but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.” – Romans 14:17
The ways of governance in the world, and the principles on which it stands, and is established, however good its intentions, are not the ways of the LORD, and that of the Kingdom of God. “44 And in the days of these kings the God of heaven will set up a kingdom which shall never be destroyed; and the kingdom shall not be left to other people; it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand forever.” – Daniel 2:44.
Jesus Himself, responding to Pilate, during His trial, says – “36 Jesus answered, “My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” – John 18:36
Gregory A. Boyd, writing in his book, “The Myth of a Christian Nation: How the Quest for Political Power Is Destroying the Church” says – “Jesus came to establish the kingdom of God as a radical alternative to all versions of the kingdom of the world, whether they declare themselves to be “under God” or not.”
It is good for us to wake-up from this naïve and misguided notion, that the kingdom of God can be established based on the principles of man. It is bound to fail, for the problem is in the very heart of man – “3 This is an evil in all that is done under the sun: that one thing happens to all. Truly the hearts of the sons of men are full of evil; madness is in their hearts while they live, and after that they go to the dead.” “9 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” – Ecclesiastes 9:3, Jeremiah 17:9
Every form of governance will fail. What we are seeing in the world is a reflection of the same. That is why the LORD said, “13 “You are the salt of the earth…14 “You are the light of the world…16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” – Matthew 5:13-16. May the LORD help us to be a true representatives of the Kingdom of God.
"The only way the kingdom of God is going to be manifest in this world before Christ comes is if we manifest it by the way we live as citizens of heaven and subjects of the King."
