There are times, in a Christian’s life, when it is darkness everywhere, and darkness seems to be invincible, and at its best. Every Christian goes through such troubling times…many times over in their lifetime. That is when we need to walk by faith in the LORD, who has called us all, out of darkness, into His marvellous light. He will guide us through anything and everything.
Sons of Korah, writing in Psalm 44:23-26, pen some very moving lines…
“23 Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord? Arise! Do not cast us off forever.
24 Why do You hide Your face, And forget our affliction and our oppression?
25 For our soul is bowed down to the dust; Our body clings to the ground.
26 Arise for our help, And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.”
The words speak with clarity the depths of agony, anguish and the pain. Such words may seem impolite, immature and unspiritual. Yet, God allowed them to be expressed, and made it a part of His written Word. It speaks about God and His heart. The LORD God Almighty, very well understands, the agony of a human heart, and the depths of its anguish. Does not the Bible say – “15 For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.” – Hebrews 4:15.
Enduring Word Commentary, comments thus, on Psalm 44 – “The psalmist had the depth of relationship with God to speak this freely, and God had the love and grace to not only hear it, but also to record such a prayer in His word.” Let us therefore, hesitate not to pour out our hearts before the LORD. He will surely give us, a compassionate hearing, to our anguish and our prayers. Whatever may be our situation, God is there to help us through it all. Hold on to God, and He will guide us through all the struggles and the storms.
"Longing for a trial to end is not necessarily sinful. The psalmists repeatedly show us how to pour out our hearts to God. I’m grateful for how God has used the psalmists’ prayers to remind me that I, too, can be honest and cry out to him in the darkness."
