We are all the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ, and therefore, we are His ambassadors, whether we are working full time in the ministry, or working eslewhere. The LORD has entrusted to us, a very important responsibility – to proclaim the gospel to the whole world, through our words and our life – and He surely will come back, to take stock of the work entrusted to us. God expects us to be faithful to the work to us, and wants to see us engaged in it with all our heart – “45 “Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom his master has set over his household, to give them their food at the proper time? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master will find so doing when he comes. 47 Truly, I say to you, he will set him over all his possessions.” – Matthew 24:45-47.
Henry Nott and his team of missionaries and artisans, who set sail from UK, arrive at Tahiti’s Matavai Bay, in March 1797. They are supported by the London Missionary Society. They are expected to preach the gospel, and teach useful arts to the natives, on the islands of Tahiti, Tonga, and the Marquesas. During the course of time, many of the original missionaries died; some went mad; some others deserted the mission; while, Nott remained steady and strong. His efforts of working in God’s vineyard yields its first fruits of converts, after tirelessly working for twenty-two years. That is no small time to spend, and so “little” to show!!! Is that a failure? No, nothing given to God with an honest heart will go waste – remember the little boy with fish and bread?
Now about this man called Henry Nott. What kind of heart and mind should he have? What kind of persistence, commitment and dedication should he have to plough on for twenty-two long years? Was Henry Nott discouraged, disappointed and dejected? Why did he not leave the mission field, when others could not continue?
May Henry Nott be our inspiration to stand for our LORD, and steadily work for our Master’s call…to be our Redeemer’s faithful ambassadors…in an ever darkening world’s. Even so the LORD help us.
"God's faithful servant has no desire for people to say or to give to him, or what he likes to hear or see, for his first and greatest aim is to hear what is most pleasing to God."
