Man has a high opinion about himself, based on the “achievements” and “progress” made so far. Consider the words of David the Psalmist, on man…
– “4 What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him?” – Psalm 8:4
– “3 LORD, what is man, that You take knowledge of him? Or the son of man, that You are mindful of him? 4 Man is like a breath; His days are like a passing shadow.” – Psalms 144:3-4
Now the question that begs the answer is, *”What is the worth of our life?”* It is worth considering this question. The written Word of God has a very clear and precise answer, to help us gain a proper perspective.
– “14 whereas you do not know what will happen tomorrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapor that appears for a little time and then vanishes away.” “6 “My days are swifter than a weaver’s shuttle, And are spent without hope. 7 Oh, remember that my life is a breath!…” “3 For my days are consumed like smoke, And my bones are burned like a hearth. 4 My heart is stricken and withered like grass…” “4 “LORD, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. 5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah” “24…“All flesh is as grass, And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass. The grass withers, And its flower falls away,” – James 4:14; Job 7:6-7a; Psalms 102:3-4a; Psalms 39:4-5; 1 Peter 1:24
When life is so fleeting, so unpredictable and so fragile, don’t you think we should be thinking more about what is worth pursuing in life, and what adds value to our life? Here is what the apostle Paul advised the young Timothy, about life and what to pursue.
– “11 But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness.” – 1 Timothy 6:11
Dear brothers and sisters, it is worth considering what are we running after in life. Mind you, our life is fragile, fleeting and unpredictable. Therefore, it is all the more imperative upon us to seriously consider what are we running after. Let us run after RIGHTEOUSNESS, GODLINESS, FAITH, LOVE, PATIENCE and GENTLENESS, as was Paul’s advice to young Timothy. May the LORD help us to pursue that which please Him and truly blesses us.
"Timothy was commanded to be different from those who lived for riches and material wealth. He was to flee the proud arguments of those who misuse God’s Word and who suppose that we should follow God just for what we can get out of it. Instead of pride and riches, Timothy was to make these things [righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness] his pursuit. These are things which are often not valued in our present age but are very valuable to God."
