Knowing who God is an essential for a Christian, and a critical component of our walk with the LORD. The more we know about the LORD God our Creator, Redeemer and Sustainer, the firmer and stronger our walk on the ‘Narrow Path’ will be. The Word of God, speaking about God, offers theses words for our help and contemplation.
– “5 Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high,” – Psalm 113:5
The question that is posed above, has the answer in itself. There is none, who is like the LORD God Almighty. That should be reassuring to our hearts, and help us burst out in praise and worship, of this, our God. We see the same in Psalm 89, where Ethan the Ezrahite, compels us to contemplate on our God.
– “5 And the heavens will praise Your wonders, O LORD; Your faithfulness also in the assembly of the saints. 6 For who in the heavens can be compared to the LORD? Who among the sons of the mighty can be likened to the LORD? 7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, And to be held in reverence by all those around Him. 8 O LORD God of hosts, Who is mighty like You, O LORD? Your faithfulness also surrounds You. 9 You rule the raging of the sea; When its waves rise, You still them.” – Psalm 89:5-9
Do we know the God of the Bible? Do we know who the LORD is, whom we claim to follow? What is the depth of our knowledge of the God of all creation? J. I. Packer, writing in his book, “Knowing God” makes this observation, which is very much relevant, to every Christian, and our walk with the LORD.
– “We are cruel to ourselves if we try to live in this world without knowing about the God whose world it is and who runs it.”
Where do we stand in the knowledge of the God, whom we are following? May the LORD help us to know Him more, and grow deeper in our knowledge and understanding of Him, who has called us out of darkness into His marvellous light – 1 Peter 2:9-10. Even so the LORD help us.
"What were we made for? To know God. What aim should we set ourselves in life? To know God. What is the eternal life that Jesus gives? Knowledge of God. “This is eternal life, that they may know the, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3). What is the best thing in life, bringing more joy, delight, and contentment, than anything else? Knowledge of God."
