Life, as we know, is never a smooth straight line. When things go wrong, as they do, ever so often, we are concerned about it. This is but normal. However, there is not much of a distance between, healthy concern and worry. Worry is synonymous with fear, and it makes us ineffective in properly handling the problems on hand.
Worry and fear tend to mix facts with fiction, and will run a riot in our minds, before they ruin our lives. When facts are seen through fear, paranoia is not too far away. Here is when we are unable to see the distinction between facts and fiction – that is, our own viral imagination of reality. Sadly, such a state just makes us feeble and fragile. If unattended and addressed, it will take greater hold and control of our lives, and will destroy us from being effective and useful.
Corrie Ten Boom, an amazing Dutch lady has some wise words for us – *”Worry does not empty tomorrow of its sorrow. It empties today of its strength.”* This is so very true.
So what do we do? How do we, as Christians proceed? I personally, run to the LORD, and remind myself of His promises, written in His Word. The promises of God, not only reveals the character of God, but also tells me that, He is trustworthy and dependable at all times. So, I place my problems at His feet, and simply wait upon the LORD. He will take care of me, and all that concerns me.
If I am scared or afraid, I redo the whole thing again – remind myself of the promises of God, His goodness and grace, that I have experienced in the past; and take shelter under His immutable character.
The Word of God has this for us – “20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.” “31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? 32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” – 2 Corinthians 1:20, Romans 8:31-32
Let us remember that “The stars may fall, but God’s promises will stand and be fulfilled.” – J. I. Packer.
"Knowing that God is faithful, it really helps me to not be captivated by worry. But knowing that He will do what He has said, He will cause it to happen, whatever He has promised, and then it causes me to be less involved in worrying about a situation."
