Life should be built on ideals and not the ground reality of life. Principles, values and ethics, as the Bible prescribes, ought to be the foundation of our lives, living and our lifestyle.
The dichotomy between ideals and the ground reality makes many uncomfortable and go astray. They wish to live a pragmatic life. Whatever works for “good” is good for the present.
Ideals, as we understand from the biblical perspective, are unattainable on our own. However, this should not stop us from aspiring for the ideal living. Ideals are like a beacon of light in the darkness. We may very well slip, stumble and fall down – perfectly possible – but that should not deter us from making ideals as our foundation for the living. For this is good for us, and also the only way forward.
We are living in an age where the bar is lowered, simply because it is unattainable. No wonder we have “dimwits” of a people with problems everywhere. There is no accountability anymore, because everything has a reason and an excuse – there is nothing right and wrong or good and bad anymore. “Why did he become a thief and a murderer?” He had a terrible childhood! What “waste” is dished out as wisdom, and the world seems to lapping it up.
True, ideals cannot be lived on our own. Therefore, we ought to look to the LORD, and seek Him to help us live the Christian ideals – Values, Ethics and Principles. This in other words is “Sanctification.” Let us earnestly desire it.
"Remember who you are. Don't compromise for anyone, for any reason. You are a child of the Almighty God. Live that truth."
