The darkness in the heart of man manifests itself in many shades, and is visible to the naked eye. However, very few of such manifestations are as ‘black’ and disgusting as discrimination based on race and colour. It is so because of the intentional and conscious application of it.
Discrimination of a fellow human being, created by the LORD God, just like everyone else, in His image, is one of the worst kinds of sin. God created everyone. He created everyone equal. He created everyone in His image. If so, how can we ever discriminate?
On 15 September 1963, which is not too long ago – almost 60 years back – “in a racially motivated attack, the 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, was bombed, killing four girls. The sermon that day was “The Love That Forgives,” based on Matthew 5:43-44.”
This, and all such incidents, go on to prove the darkness of human heart, and the depravity of it. The saddest and the most tragic part being, the perpetrators of such crimes, call themselves Bible believing Christians. What pains the most is the deafening silence of those who truly believe the LORD. What a tragedy, that such a sin be allowed, and none have the decency, civility nor the courage to speak out…including the pulpits.
Let me quote Martin Luther King Jr., who in his, now famous speech, in Washington, in 1963 was compelled to say – “I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the colour of their skin but by the content of their character.” The words speak volumes of the hate and the intentional discrimination.
May the LORD help us LOVE, FORGIVE and LIVE for God our Redeemer, and our LORD, as He WANTS us to…as He WOULD live…as He HAD lived. So help us God.
"Racism springs from the lie that certain human beings are less than fully human. It’s a self-centered falsehood that corrupts our minds into believing we are right to treat others as we would not want to be treated."
