The LORD Jesus, empowers and sends seventy of His followers into the ‘harvest fields’ to proclaim the good news about the kingdom of God – Luke 10:1. It is an honour and a privilege, even though it has dangers in doing so.
The same seventy return back to their Master, after their gospel ‘campaign.’ Upon their return, Jesus says something that should interest us, just as we should, about the proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom of God!!!
The LORD says, “19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.” – Luke 10:19
The LORD is empowering ordinary and simple people for His great and glorious work. This power is not to destroy, but to build; it is not to be spent on propagating and promoting ourselves, but the LORD and His kingdom.
While living for the LORD, and being His disciple and His witness, in the failing and falling world, we will have problems – “33….In the world ye shall have tribulation…” – John 16:33.
If we look at the end of Luke 10:19, we find this – “…nothing shall by any means hurt you.” This should comfort us immensely, even as it informs us, that our walk with the LORD will be fraught with dangers.
So take courage my friend. The LORD who called us, is with us, and He will never abandon us. He will walk right beside us. Let us on our part, be faithful to the LORD, and learn to walk steadily with Him, and for Him. So help us God.
"If the Lord be with us, we have no cause of fear. His eye is upon us, His arm over us, His ear open to our prayer - His grace sufficient, His promise unchangeable."
