One would need money, however we may see it, to live our lives. Therefore, we work hard most of our lives. We also strive for an honourable, dignified and good life. It is but natural for anyone to think on these lines, and work towards that. It is good also.
This is also equally true, that many a man has ruined his life by pursuing riches, power and position in their lives. When the pursuit of such things becomes the sole aim, and an end in itself, one loses the moral compass of life, and steps into prohibited domain, which hastens our doom and destruction. This is the reality in the world that we live in.
The Word of God too talks about riches, honour and a good life. However, the way it perceives it, and the way it approaches it, is diametrically opposite to the way the world pursues it. The Bible says thus in Proverbs 22:4 – “4 By humility and the fear of the LORD are riches, and honour, and life.”
The LORD further exhorts us in this regard in Proverbs 10:22 – “22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.” How wonderful it is!
The words of Jesus, spoken to the disciples in Matthew 6:31-33, sums up the heart of God, regarding our lives and our needs, and what He is expecting from us – “31 Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? 32 (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. 33 But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Wise words and sound advise…from the LORD Himself.
It pays us well, to lisent to this advise from the LORD Himself, for us, and our good. Let us not ignore it, for if we ignore, we will destroy ourselves.
"Riches and the things that are necessary in life are not evil in themselves. And all of us face cares and troubles in this life. The sin comes in the time and energy we spend in pursuing these things, at the expense of neglecting Christ."
