One of the recurring themes in the Bible is, to “Give thanks to the LORD.” Many a man of God, especially in the Psalms, encourage and advise us to give thanks to the LORD. In fact, they point out that, such a thing should be natural, since the LORD is good, gracious and merciful towards us, apart from providing all that we need, and protecting us from every harm and danger.
Psalm 107:21-22 is one such example for us – “21 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men!
22 Let them sacrifice the sacrifices of thanksgiving, And declare His works with rejoicing.”
Kay Arthur, echoing Paul [1 Thessalonians 5:18] has these words for us – “God is in control, and therefore in EVERYTHING, I can give thanks – not because of the situation, but because of the One who directs and rules over it.”
Billy Graham, with all his experience as a disciple, and someone who has seen and experienced all seasons, advises us – “A spirit of thankfulness is one of the most distinctive marks of a Christian whose heart is attuned to the Lord. Thank God in the midst of trials and every persecution.”
The year is new, but our struggles may be old. The date may have changed, but the trials and troubles may not have changed. The LORD who led us thus far, will lead us into the future too. He who called us is faithful! He will care for us. Let us shine for Him at all times.
"Some of our most profound gratitude arises from a grit of resolve in our hearts to not allow the gravest voices to be the loudest voices in our lives."
