The LORD Jesus, talking about our hearts and its desires, puts it plainly – “21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21. What we earnestly desire is, where our everything or ‘treasure’ is. In other words, it is what we are living for, and working towards, with all our heart, mind and spirit. Simply put, that which consumes us day and night is, what holds us, and drives us, and our lives.
The Psalmist writes his own desire for his life- “33 Teach me, O LORD, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.
34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.
35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.
36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.
37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.” – Psalms 119:33-37
The Psalmist is desiring and praying for five things from the LORD. 1- Teach me, O LORD; 2- Give me understanding; 3- Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; 4- Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness; 5- Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity;
Isn’t that an amazing list of things to desire? Do we have a list of things, that we desire for our lives? Do we seek the LORD to bring it to pass? What does that list include?
"Prayer does not mean asking God for all kinds of things we want, it is rather the desire for God Himself, the only Giver of Life."
