The LORD Jesus exhorts a Christian to take his word seriously “37 But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil.” – Matthew 5:37. The Word of God gives such prominence to what we speaks is because, the words that we speak have the power of life and death in them – “21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” – Proverbs 18:21.
The LORD God Almighty, while giving the law through Moses, says “1 “You shall not circulate a false report. Do not put your hand with the wicked to be an unrighteous witness. 2 You shall not follow a crowd to do evil; nor shall you testify in a dispute so as to turn aside after many to pervert justice. 3 You shall not show partiality to a poor man in his dispute…7 Keep yourself far from a false matter; do not kill the innocent and righteous. For I will not justify the wicked.” – Exodus 23:1,7.
As we begin a new work week, let us seek the LORD, that we be honest and truthful in all our dealings. Who we actually are, is reflected in the words we speak, and in the way we conduct ourselves. This is clearly stated by the LORD – “34…for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.” – Matthew 12:34b. May we speak and live in such a manner, that, the LORD our Father be lifted up and glorified.
"Think about how much falsehood and deceit there is in the world! How much exaggeration! How many untruths are added to a simple story! How many things are left out, if it does not serve the speaker's interest to tell them! How few there are around us of whom we can say, that we trust their word without question!"
