Power that money has, and exerts, over human beings, is immense. Therefore, we consider it invaluable for our progress, peace and happiness. The Word of God is very clear about money, and all its effects.
The word used for money, by the LORD Jesus, is “mammon” – “24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.” – Matthew 6:24.
The Greek word used for “mammon” is a Semitic word for money and or possessions. If we study the Bible, we see that – “Sixteen of the thirty-eight parables of Jesus deal with money. One out of ten verses in the New Testament deals with that subject. Scripture offers about five hundred verses on prayer, fewer than five hundred on faith, and over two thousand on money. The believer’s attitude toward money and possessions is determinative.” – John MacArthur. So, it is not just physical money, everything that we possess, which has a economic value to it.
Therefore, the advise of our Creator and our LORD is this, for us as Christians – “5 Keep your life free from love of money, and be content with what you have, for he has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?” – Hebrews 13:5-6. So God help us.
"Money exerts a certain control over us because it seems to hold out so much (false) promise of happiness. It whispers with great force, "Think and act so as to get into a position to enjoy my benefits." This may include stealing, borrowing, or working. Money promises happiness, and we serve it by believing the promise and walking by that faith."
