The LORD Jesus wants our hearts, our full attention and our complete obedience. The LORD is not interested in we sailing in two boats. This is precisely what the LORD Jesus was pointing out in Matthew 6:24 – “24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Paul Chappell brings it out very well – “God does not need your money; He wants what it represents – you. Finances are God’s gift to you to fulfill His will for your life. While God desires you to prioritize His work in giving, He wants you to purpose to follow, and serve Him, no matter what happens with your finances.” God wants our hearts, our full attention, and complete obedience…nothing less than that.
Therefore, in the light of the Scriptures, it is good to ask ourselves some questions. How is money influencing us? What about our obedience to God? Are we drawing closer to God or to the money? If God were to ask all our money, today, will we unhesitantly, willingly and happily give it up for God? Let us be careful – for love of money will draw us away from God.
"You had better be a poor man and a rich Christian, than a rich man and a poor Christian. You had better do anything, bear anything, and be anything rather than be a dwarf in grace."
