The Word of God says, “23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. 24 For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?” – Proverbs 27:23-24. These are wise and insightful words.
Wealth doesn’t happen by accident. It could very well be gained by immoral, illegal and unethical means. However, it will never be a blessing to the person. Creating wealth is the result of intentionally walking a certain path. Wealth is not the end product of walking that path, but rather, the bye product of walking the path of hard work, hemmed in by a life of principles, wisdom, intelligent and careful planning, and a systematic investment.
If one is not careful in managing money well, money won’t mind moving on to other places, where it is handled well. For us to manage it well, we need to have a realistic budget, taking into account our income and our expenses, and a committed desire to live within our means.
We have to always ensure that the income is always more than the expenses. This doesn’t mean, we have to earn more than our expenses. That will never ever happen for sure. This simply means, *to ensure our expenses are less, and well within our income.* For such a thing to happen, it requires planning, adjustments and foregoing what is not needed. Additionally, we should save, have a true picture of our needs and wants; live within our means, with bare minimum and manageable levels of loans, borrowings and credit, which must certainly be in proportion to our income.
Wealth happens because, we have cultivated a healthy and biblically sound environment of prudent living within our means. Money, they say, is a good servant, but a bad master. Therefore, we ought to be careful to keep money in its place. If not, we will end up serving it, instead of the LORD God Almighty. May the LORD help us to be wise with our money, and keep it where it belongs.
"There is nothing wrong with men possessing riches. The wrong comes when riches possess men."
