Prophet Isaiah, in Isaiah 25, writes amazing words in the backdrop of gloom and doom of chapter 24. David Guzik, titles chapter 25 as “THE SONG OF JOY FROM THE MIDST OF TRIBULATION.” This in essence is, the Christian walk in life – PRAISING and EXALTING God our Creator, in the midst of everything that is going wrong.
For many, such a scenario may look like a deranged person, completely out of touch with reality. The logic being, “How can one praise God the Almighty, when everything is going wrong, and also, God doesn’t seem to care to help alleviate the situation?”
Let us hear the wisdom and the reason behind Isaiah’s way of thinking – “1 O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” – Isaiah 25:1
Isaiah straightaway, without delay, jumps into praising God – “thou art my God” and “I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name” because “thou hast done wonderful things” not just that, but “thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth.” What a glorious view of God!!!
Isaiah goes on to say – because of all the above reasons, “3 Therefore shall the strong people glorify thee, the city of the terrible nations shall fear thee. 4 For thou hast been a strength to the poor, a strength to the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shadow from the heat, when the blast of the terrible ones is as a storm against the wall.” – Isaiah 25:3-4
God is our STRENGTH, REFUGE and SHADE whatever may be the struggles and the storms in and around us. This requires that we develop a habit to rise above our problems, and learn to see the LORD, who is seated high above all things and circumstances. Not just that, but that, He is concerned about us, and surely in His sovereign grace, will help us through.
Therefore, we continue to praise God, even if it doesn’t make sense to others around us. Remember Job? HalleluYah!!!
"...I am a drowned debtor to the mercy of God – over head and ears – to infinite love and boundless compassion I am a debtor. Are you not the same? Then I charge you by the love of Christ, awake, awake your hearts now to magnify his glorious name."
