Why should we praise God? What are some of the reasons that we can think of? Unless this fundamental question is answered, we cannot truly praise God, is my opinion.
The Bible asks us to praise God. There are enough references for it. Psalm 148 has only fourteen verses, yet it is packed with praise for God. The first six verses urges everyone, beginning with heavenly hosts, angels, sun, moon and stars and all of creation to praise God.
Verses seven to twelve urges the earth, and all the creatures on it to praise God. Creatures and animals, mountains and hills, trees, cattle, birds and beasts. Then it urges the kings and queens; rulers, princes and judges and all the people, both young and old, men and women to praise God.
Psalm 148 verses 13-14 gives the all important reason for everyone to praise God – “13 Let them praise the name of the LORD: for his name alone is excellent; his glory is above the earth and heaven. 14 He also exalteth the horn of his people, the praise of all his saints; even of the children of Israel, a people near unto him. Praise ye the LORD.” – Psalm 148:13-14
Let us praise God for WHO He is, and WHAT He has done. Let us praise Him for His character. Let us praise God for His goodness, grace and mercy. Let us praise Him for His precious, priceless and unconditional love. Let us praise God for loving us to the extent of dying for us on the cross…willingly despite the pain and the agony. Let us praise the LORD, and lift Him up, for all that He is and for all that He has done.
"We praise God, not because he needs our praise (for all glory resides in and on him), but in order to see him more clearly, enlarge our soul, and relieve our spirit."
