It may sound preposterous of me to ask, “What Does God ‘Deserve?'” It is indeed sacrilegious even to conceive of such a question. However, the question is not with any malicious intention. Rather, it is a question asked, more to ourselves as a Christian, than to God, in any sense of the word. May be, we can reframe the question and ask, “What Does the LORD Desire?”
The Word of God records of godly people asking the same – “16 For You do not desire sacrifice, or else I would give it; You do not delight in burnt offering.” – Psalm 51:16
The Bible further records – “10 For every beast of the forest is Mine, And the cattle on a thousand hills. 11 I know all the birds of the mountains, And the wild beasts of the field are Mine. 12 “If I were hungry, I would not tell you; For the world is Mine, and all its fullness. 13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, Or drink the blood of goats?” – Psalm 50:10-13
So what can we give Him? The Word of God makes it very clear – “17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, A broken and a contrite heart— These, O God, You will not despise.” “14 Offer to God thanksgiving, And pay your vows to the Most High.” “8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?” – Psalm 51:17; 50:14; Micah 6:8
What the LORD desires from us is made amply clear. May the LORD help us to be true worshippers and people who will live for Him at all times, and lift Him up high unashamedly.
"22…“Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams.”"
