Apostle Paul, writing to the Christians in Ephesus, urges them to…“20 giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,” – Ephesians 5:20.
His simple and straightforward point – “GIVE THANKS to the LORD, ALWAYS and FOR ALL THINGS.” It is good for us to note the words “ALWAYS” and “FOR ALL THINGS.” This simply means, give thanks to God for anything and everything that is happening in our lives… GOOD, BAD or UGLY. The same is emphasised in 1 Thessalonians 5:18 – “18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”
Isn’t it a bit strange that we are urged to thank God even in bad times? Such a position is taken basing on God and His goodness and grace that is showered upon us, the undeserving of anything, to the very core. Those who KNOW the LORD, will not question the LORD, but will burst out in praise and thanks to the LORD because of their understanding of God and His workings – “32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” “3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,” “10 And those who know Your name will put their trust in You; For You, LORD, have not forsaken those who seek You.” “22 The LORD redeems the soul of His servants, And none of those who trust in Him shall be condemned.” – Romans 8:32, Ephesians 1:3, Psalms 9:10, Psalms 34:22
May we walk through this week with praise and thanksgiving. May the LORD be lifted up, in and through our lives.
"Every hour, yea, every moment has brought a favor upon its wings. Look downward and give thanks, for you are saved from hell; look on the right hand and give thanks, for you are enriched with gracious gifts; look on the left hand and give thanks, for you are shielded from deadly ills; look above you and give thanks, for heaven awaits you."
