David of the Bible is, such a fine example, for faith in God, in the face of adversity and storms. Right from a very young age, up untill his death, David faced problems at regular intervals. Yet, in the face of all that he faced, David always made YAHWEH, his strength and fortress – Psalm 46.
In Psalm 3:1-4, we see David writing a song of praise and prayer when he was fleeing his own son, Absalom – II Samuel 15:13 following. David was about 70 years old, when Absalom rebelled. He literally had to run to save his life, and had to go barefoot with tears by the Ascent of the Mount of Olives – II Samuel 15:14,30.
David is running scared from his own son. It is such an utterly “shameful” thing to do, for a mighty and fearless warrior, who slayed Goliath with a single stone. However, in Psalm 3:3, we see the heart of David, and his faith in the LORD God Almighty – “3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.”
David’s strength was not in his arm, nor in his aim. David always knew that it was the LORD who gave him the grace, and it is the LORD who enabled him to accomplish such mighty acts. Therefore David cries to his LORD.
David writes – “1 LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me. 2 Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.”
David responds to his own questions by writing, “3 But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head. 4 I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.”
May David be an inspiration to us, in all our struggles, big or small. May the LORD who helped David in all his storms, be our help, strength and guide in all our struggles too. To God be the glory, great things He has done…and great things He will do!!!
