One of the most important trait in a Christian’s life is “gratitude.” Gratitude is simply, to be thankful, to the person who helped us, when we’re were in need. Gratitude or being thankful doesn’t exist in vacuum. It exists in our memories, and our desire to remember and recollect, the acts of kindness, someone has extended to us, when we were unable to help ourselves.
Psalm 107 is one such Psalm where the author is recollecting all that the LORD had done, and pens it as a “Thanksgiving to the LORD for His Great Works of Deliverance.” This central theme is put across plainly, and may be bluntly, in verses 8-9 – “8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD for His goodness, And for His wonderful works to the children of men! 9 For He satisfies the longing soul, And fills the hungry soul with goodness.”
It encourages us to thank God for His GOODNESS, His WONDERFUL WORKS, and His PROVISION. Would someone who had received such goodness, forget the one who showed such kindness? It is possible. That is why the Psalmist says – “8 Oh, that men would give thanks to the LORD…”
How about us? Do we have a list of things that God had done for us? Do we remember and recollect such acts of kindness of God? Or, do we simply run to God with one need after the other? It is good says Psalm 92:1-2 – “1 It is good to give thanks to the LORD, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; 2 To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night,” Let us continually praise and thank God for all that we have received, and still are.
"The devout heart feels that worship is ‘good,’ not only as being acceptable to God and conformable to man’s highest duty, but as being the source of delight to the worshipper."
