Robert Morrison, a Christian missionary from England goes to China a missionary in early 1800s. He stays there for twenty five years, and does significant work.
According to the Christian Church history records, Robert Morrison, (5 January 1782 – 1 August 1834), an Anglo-Scottish Protestant, went as a missionary to Portuguese Macao, Qing-era Guangdong, and the Dutch Malacca. He was also a pioneering sinologist, lexicographer, and translator, who is considered as the “Father of Anglo-Chinese Literature”.
By the time Robert Morrison died in August 1834, he had translated the Bible into Chinese in 1823, constructed a Chinese grammar, founded an Anglo-Chinese college, and edited a six-volume Chinese dictionary.
None of the Christian missionaries of the past ever got entangled with the geo-political ambitions of their nations. They came to serve the people, because of the call of their Master and Redeemer, the LORD Jesus Christ of Nazareth. They did not involve in politics, nor had they any desire for it. They firmly believed the Bible, and preached the gospel passionately. They served the people with all their heart, mind and soul.
It is sad to see how some powers are using Christians, and Christian organisations, for their geo-political ends, which has nothing to do with the Bible, nor the God of the Bible. They are trying to push and promote their agenda, which is clearly anti-Christian, and it is increasingly becoming clear. The LORD Jesus said, “36…“My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.” – John 18:36
May the LORD Jesus help us to be discerning disciples, who desire only to serve the Saviour, and no one else, and nothing else. Even so the LORD help us.
"Be careful,” warned Nietzsche, “lest in fighting the dragon you become the dragon.” I see the confusion of politics and religion as one of the greatest barriers to grace. C. S. Lewis once said that almost all crimes of Christian history have come about when religion is confused with politics. Politics, which always runs by the rules of ungrace, allures us to trade away grace for power, a temptation the church has often been unable to resist."
