Prayer is one of the lifelines of a Christian. Prayer keeps us connected to the LORD God Almighty, the source of all help, strength and courage for a life that we are being called to, as the disciples. However, this lifeline is ‘delicate’ and ‘fragile’ – we can get distracted, and many times, discouraged while praying.
The LORD Jesus, has some insight into this, which should help us see things clearly. The LORD says, “1 Then He spoke…that men always ought to pray and not lose heart,” – Luke 18:1. These words of Jesus are part of “The Parable of the Persistent Widow.”
I learn this from the words of Jesus – “we should always pray.” This simply means, do not qualify a need by saying this needs prayer, and this doesn’t, because I can do it myself. In effect, we are saying unawares, we don’t need God’s help in this matter, because we can do it ourselves. Such a spirit can and will lead us into spiritual problems.
Second thing that the LORD says is “do not lose heart.” Discouragement and disappointment in prayer is one of the most common things. Therefore, the LORD is upraising us in advance. There could be many reasons why discouragement can knock our doors. Whatever the case, the LORD wants us to persist in prayer, and always walk in faith.
May the LORD help us to build a good and strong prayer life. It is never easy. It is tough. Therefore, we need the LORD to help us.
