As the disciples of the LORD Jesus Christ, we are urged and are expected to not hate, and at the same time, hate some. Strange as it may seem, this is true. We are called to “love our enemies” and “hate sin” – “15 Hate evil, love good; Establish justice in the gate. It may be that the LORD God of hosts Will be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.” – Amos 5:15
Hate is a powerful emotion. It has such potential to destroy things, that human beings have used it in ways that is self-destructive. Hate hurts and damages the person who hates, more than the person who is being hated. The person who is being hated may visibly show signs of hurt and pain. Sadly, the one who hates is eaten up by that very hate, and they simply don’t know it. What a tragedy of self-destruction it is, and what a fall it will be. That is why we are expected to love, even our enemies, and hate that which is evil.
– “13 The fear of the LORD is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way And the perverse mouth I hate.” – Proverbs 8:13
– “43 “You have heard that it was said, You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven;…” – Matthew 5:43
May the LORD help us in handling ourselves in a manner worthy of His name. Even so the LORD help us.
"Fear of something is at the root of hate for others, and hate within will eventually destroy the hater."
