The words of YAHWEH, written down for us in Isaiah 40:27-31, is an important, insightful and enriching passage for us to meditate. It speaks clearly to us, about God, the frailty of the human strength. It also speaks about the love, the care and the concern of YAHWEH towards His people.
The passage begins with a set of questions, which sum up the heart of the LORD, and the lessons that He wants us to learn. – “27 Why do you say, O Jacob, And speak, O Israel: “My way is hidden from the LORD, And my just claim is passed over by my God”? 28 Have you not known? Have you not heard?”
The verses 28b-29 beautifully describe the traits of the LORD God Almighty, which is essential for anyone to have a grasp of who HE is – “…The everlasting God, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable. 29 He gives power to the weak, And to those who have no might He increases strength.” What a wonderful and caring God is our LORD!!!
Verse 30 speaks about the finiteness and the utter futility of human strength – “30 Even the youths shall faint and be weary, And the young men shall utterly fall,” What a revelation it is, for many of us, who wish to sledge on in our own strength, like the disciple Peter.
However, the LORD brings to our attention, in verse 31, about the strength available to all those, who willingly wait upon the LORD, and look upon Him for help and sustenance – “31 But those who wait on the LORD Shall renew their strength; They shall mount up with wings like eagles, They shall run and not be weary, They shall walk and not faint.”
May we make the LORD, our refuge and our fortress – Psalm 46;1-3. Let us never forget that “1 Unless the LORD builds the house, They labour in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman stays awake in vain.” – Psalm 127:1
"Waiting on God requires the willingness to bear uncertainty, to carry within oneself the unanswered question, lifting the heart to God about it whenever it intrudes upon one's thoughts."
