When there are a group of people living together, there are bound to be difference of opinions. Having a different opinion is not a matter of concern at all. In fact, it is a sign of healthy relationship, and a sign of individual freedom to differ and disagree.
The problem arises with, what we wish to do with our differences and disagreements. When we want to insist, it is “our way, or high way,” and begin to disrespect others, because of our differences and disagreements, then, we will not only have a big problem on our hands, but much more than that, a problem that can never be solved. Here in is the wisdom of Love, Harmony and Peace.
The problems that we have, arise because of our egos and our pride. With these two come, arrogance, hatred, and a toxic desire to defeat the other. Winning is never about defeating the other. If so, the very root of our purpose to win, becomes the reason for our defeat. Any victory thus gained, is much worse that defeat itself.
Sadly, we have become so blind in our hate for the other, that we haven’t realised that, we stopped seeing, and have gone blind. The Bible has a lot to offer to us about human relationships. The Word of God gives us principles, that can be used as an instrument for LOVE, HARMONY and PEACE, across the board, even between two bitterly warring groups.
The Bible says, “Live in harmony with one another; do not be haughty (snobbish, high-minded, exclusive), but readily adjust yourself to [people, things] and give yourselves to humble tasks. Never overestimate yourself or be wise in your own conceits. [Prov. 3:7.] Repay no one evil for evil, but take thought for what is honest and proper and noble [aiming to be above reproach] in the sight of everyone. [Prov. 20:22.] If possible, as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone. Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God’s] wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord. [Deut. 32:35.] But if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head. [Prov. 25:21, 22.] Do not let yourself be overcome by evil, but overcome (master) evil with good.” – Romans 12:16-21. This is possible, *when people approach their differences with honesty, integrity, truthfulness and transparency.* Sadly, we fail again utterly. The world we live in today, is a fine illustration to this.
May the LORD help us, as Christians and as His disciples and ambassadors, to be peace makers. The LORD Jesus said – “9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.” – Matthew 5:9. Let us never be the disrupters of peace, rather be instruments of LOVE, HARMONY and PEACE.
"We are not at peace with others because we are not at peace with ourselves, and we are not at peace with ourselves because we are not at peace with God."
