The LORD desires that we look to Him for all our needs. He knows us all too well, and our capabilities and incapabilities. That is why the Word of God says, “5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; 6 In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.” – Proverbs 3:5-6.
A life lived by faith is both easy and difficult. It is not contradictory to say so. If we trust God like a “child” then it is easy. If we think and reason like an “adult” it is difficult. George Müller stands out as a very fine example of a life lived by faith…a child-like faith.
– George Müller built five houses for orphans, in which 10,000 children were sheltered and cared for.
– George Müller is known to have had 50,000 prayers answered to big and little prayers during his 93 years of life.
– According to an article in The Times, Muller received approximately 1.5 million pounds (equaling 2.6 million dollars) through faithful prayer and established orphanages in five locations.
Such faith of George Müller comes from God, and his dependency on His ability.
– George Müller is said to have read the Bible more than 200 times, many times on his knees.
– George Müller says, “The first thing I did, after having asked in a few words the Lord’s blessing upon His precious Word, was to begin to meditate on the Word of God, searching as it were into every verse to get blessing out of it; not for the sake of the public ministry of the Word, not for the sake of preaching on what I had meditated upon, but for the sake of obtaining food for my own soul.”
A life thus lived had its impact in so many ways…
– One of the great effects of Mueller’s ministry was to inspire others so that “fifty years after Mr. Mueller began his work, at least one hundred thousand orphans were cared for in England alone.” He did all this while he was preaching three times a week from 1830 to 1898, at least 10,000 times.
The God that called and provided George Müller, is the same God who has called us. The LORD of George Müller is still the same even today. Would we, like a child, trust God to provide want we need to serve God and His kingdom? It is possible, if we learn to lean of God.
"My business is, with all my might to serve my own generation; in doing so I shall best serve the next generation, should the Lord Jesus tarry.... The longer I live, the more I am enabled to realize that I have but one life to live on earth, and that this one life is but a brief life, for sowing, in comparison with eternity, for reaping." "Money is really worth no more than as it can be used to accomplish the Lord's work. Life is worth as much as it is spent for the Lord's service." "Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you."
