In the history of the Church, the Christians from the West played a critical role in spreading the gospel. They had their share of struggles and storms in their own nations, and their own denominations. Yet they, served their LORD in faith and obedience, to the call of gospel.
Firstly, they wholeheartedly gave themselves to the work of the LORD. Secondly, they gave men, money and material for the preaching for the gospel, and for the upliftment of those in the grips of darkness. Their sacrifice is born out of love for the LORD. They served the LORD, despite dangers and death. Their efforts are commendable, despite their shortcomings, if any.
I can think of, three examples of Christians, who sacrificially gave for the work of the LORD, in far off places…
1- An old lady, living on little finances, stopped using sugar, and gave that savings for the mission work.
2- A rich man, in memory of his daughter, who died in a far off nation, serving as a missionary, built a grand school.
3- A simple family, with not many financial resources, chose to sweep and swab in a shopping mall, on Saturdays, so that, they can support, the work of missions.
What Love, what Sacrifice and what Commitment to the LORD. Such love, and such sacrifice, is seen only, when it is driven by agape love. May we always be grateful to the LORD, for these, our brothers and sisters, from the West. They loved us, and stood with us, in times of our need. May we lift them up in our prayers, so that the LORD would strengthen them in their hour of need.
"Life is pitiful, death so familiar, suffering and pain so common, yet I would not be anywhere else. Do not wish me out of this or in any way seek to get me out, for I will not be got out while this trial is on. These are my people, God has given them to me, and I will live or die with for Him and His glory."
