When things go bad, as they do so many times, in a Christian’s life, what can we do? Nothing touches us, unless the LORD allows it to touch and trouble us. Job of old, is a very fine example…and so much to learn about – Job 1:6-20. So, we do not need to be troubled or disturbed, if trouble has touched us, and torments us. The LORD will take care of it.
Peter, writing to the persecuted Christians of the early Church, and exhorts them thus – “12 Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; 13 but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.” – 1 Peter 4:12-13.
Suffering for a Christian should not be viewed as strange. Rather, as something that is expected. Secondly, we are advised and encouraged by Peter, to rejoice, when trouble hits us. Humanly impossible, if not entirely crazy. However, when we see it through the LORD’s view, then we see, the meaning and the purpose of our suffering.
We are explicitly commanded to ensure that we are not subjected to persecution because of our wrong doings. Then, we better face the problem, and pay the price for it. This is what Peter says – “15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.” – 1 Peter 4:15
If we are suffering because we are faithfully walking in God’s ways, as His children and disciples, then we have nothing to fear…we are called to rejoice, for the LORD stands with us. “16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in this matter…19 Therefore let those who suffer according to the will of God commit their souls to Him in doing good, as to a faithful Creator.” – 1 Peter 4:16,19
May the LORD help us to be faithful to Him, in the face of troubles and suffering. The LORD will take care of everything. We just have to wait upon the LORD, and watch Him work. It may not be easy. It may cause I, pain and anguish. Let nothing trouble our hearts. The LORD knows it, and He is working things out…unseen by us, through His invisible and almighty arm. HalleluYah!!!
"13...“Do not be afraid. Stand still, and see the salvation of the LORD, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
