Augustine, the early Church Father’s prayer is something, I am sure, will help us gain insight into God, our struggles and the comfort, clarity and courage, that we can find in the midst of conflict and confusion. He says…
“God of our life, there are days when the burdens we carry chafe our shoulders and weigh us down; when the road seems dreary and endless, the skies grey and threatening; when our lives have no music in them, and our hearts are lonely, and our souls have lost their courage. Flood the path with light, run our eyes to where the skies are full of promise; tune our hearts to brave music; give us the sense of comradeship with heroes and saints of every age; and so quicken our spirits that we may be able to encourage the souls of all who journey with us on the road of life, to Your honour and glory.” What wisdom is contained in these few words.
Now, where shall we find God’s wisdom and light for our path? Where shall we find comfort, clarity and courage, in the midst of our conflict and confusion? Where else my friend – The written Word of God – the Bible. The Psalmist says – “103 How sweet are Your words to my taste, Sweeter than honey to my mouth! 104 Through Your precepts I get understanding; Therefore I hate every false way. 105 Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.” – Psalm 119:103-105
Here are some more pearls of wisdom, from the wonderful Word of God, that keeps us firmly on the “Narrow Way,” whatever may be that has come upon us.
– “31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?” – Romans 8:31-32
– “28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” – Romans 8:28
– “6 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, 7 casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” – 1 Peter 5:6-7
– ”1 But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. 2 When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you. 3 For I am the LORD your God, The Holy One of Israel, your Savior;” – Isaiah 43:1-3
– “5 Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” 6 So we may boldly say: “The LORD is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me?” – Hebrews 13:5-6
– “1 God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. 2 Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3 Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah” – Psalm 46:1-3
– “10 Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! 11 The LORD of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah” – Psalm 46:10-11
May the LORD be our hope and help…our comfort, clarity and courage, in the midst of our conflict and confusion. SOLI DEO GLORIA – All glory to God alone!!!
"Beloved, I say, let your fears go, lest they make you fainthearted. Stop inspiring fear in those around you and now take your stand in faith. God has been good and He will continue to manifest His goodness........ Let us approach these days expecting to see the goodness of the Lord manifest. Let us be strong and of good courage, for the Lord will fight for us if we stand in faith."
