Each of us face all kinds of storms, in life. The nature of a storm is to cause disturbance and damage. If we make the LORD, who is the true refuge, and the true fortress, He can, and He will help us, and save us. Isn’t that wonderful news?
God is the only One who can shelter and save us. However, the point to note for us is, God cannot be “controlled” by us. God is Sovereign, and He will do what He thinks is good for us, and not what we think is good for us. Herein is the clash, many a times, in our spiritual storms. Do you see the clash?
We hold an opinion, and we think, our opinion is not only right, but also, this is how the storm in our life, should be addressed…rather, at times, this is the only way, how it should be addressed. Let us learn from the wisdom of Job, who went through hell; and this what he concludes about the Almighty God – “1 Then Job answered…2 “I know that You can do everything, And that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You.” – Job 42:1-2
The statement that Job makes is, reflecting more of his total trust in God, than the statement being, a realisation of something new, and unknown to him, earlier. We may know God is sovereign, in an intellectual sense. However, to trust God completely and wholly, is an entirely different dimension, in our walk with the LORD. Unless we come to such a state, where we realise, God is Sovereign, in the face of all that we think we are, and conclude, that we are nothing, sadly, we actually know nothing about God.
Remember Peter, who was the first one to jump up, for all things, even to the extent of chopping off an ear? Yet the same Peter sheepishly says to the risen LORD Jesus, “…Lord, You know all things; You know that I love You.” – John 21:17b. This is the realisation, that one needs to, as a disciple of the LORD, arrive at. Then we are ready to trust God, fully and completely, storms or no storms. Even so, the LORD help us.
"On accepting adversity in our lives: Always it is initiated by an act of will on our part; we set ourselves to believe in the overruling goodness, providence, and sovereignty of God and refuse to turn aside no matter what may come, no matter how we may feel. I mistakenly thought I could not trust God unless I felt like trusting Him. Now I am learning that trusting God is first of all a matter of the will. I choose to trust in God, and my feelings [will] eventually follow."
