What is love? What is it made of? How does it look like? How can we see love? These are some questions one ought to ask, not the other person, but ourselves. We need to ask ourselves “What is love?” and “Are we walking the path of love?” as Christians. Such questions are increasingly becoming imperative, because, we Christians are turning into warmongers, baying for the blood and revenge, in utter disregard for our God, and what He had taught us – Deuteronomy 32:35; Matthew 5:43-48; Romans 12:19-21.
Here under is a short list that I have arrived at for my life, basing on what our LORD taught us; kindly consider…
– Love cares for the other person more than self.
– Love is always seen in action to help the other person without any ulterior motive.
– Love always sacrifices itself for the other person.
– Love never expects anything in return for all that is done for the other person.
– Love forgives, even before one asks for forgiveness.
– Love hides its hurts, and gives itself wholly for the blessing of the other person.
– Love walks the extra mile with no complaints, despite their personal struggles.
To be honest, this is a tall task, and is almost impossible to walk this path…but for the grace of God. There are not many who would fit this bill. However, I had the privilege to see a rare few, and I am blessed by their friendship, and their love. I am richer by such amazing people in my life. How about you? Have you seen any?
The more serious question for us, is not, if we have seen someone who fits that bill. The question is, if we are willing to walk this path, and be that love, which our LORD had shown to us. Isn’t this what, being a Christian, is all about? This is what I thought we were being asked, by the Redeemer, when He called us to follow Him. Don’t you think so?
The love that the LORD talks about, and has walked Himself on it, is to love the unlovable, and love our enemy – unconditionally. Any fool will love his friend. Any idiot will do a lot for those whom he likes. I guess God is calling us to rise above being fools and idiots. We are called to love as Jesus did.
– “16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” – John 3:16
– “8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” – Romans 5:8
– “13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.” – John 15:13
– “4 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, 5 even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved),” – Ephesians 2:4
– “9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” – 1 John 4:9-11
May the LORD Jesus help us to be truly His ambassadors and His faithful disciples. Even so the LORD help us.
"The overriding character trait of Jesus is love, and the entire Gospel story is woven with love. Sometimes it is not easy, and oftentimes it requires sacrifice, but it is when we love, that we are the most like Jesus."
