Seasons in a year may vary from place to place. However, seasons keep changing, and they are unpredictable…this is the common factor, all over the world. So also human life, it keeps changing, and the change is constant. Life has its ups and downs…good and bad…pleasant and unpleasant things happening to us, for various reasons.
How should we face life, and all its challenges? This is a critical question for all of us. The response to this question will determine, how we will fare in our life. As a Christian, let us look into the LORD’s eternal Word, to see, what He has to say to us. Let us read Psalm 71:5-6…
– “5 For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth. 6 By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.”
If we observe the above two verses, we see that, David [to whom this Psalm is ascribed] addresses God four times as his hope and his help…
– For You are my hope, O Lord GOD;
– You are my trust from my youth.
– By You I have been upheld from birth
– You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb
– My praise shall be continually of You
David hoped on the LORD, and trusted God alone. *David placed his trust in God alone because, the LORD had been his help, even from his mother’s womb.* In fact, he says…
– “…You are my trust from my youth. 6 By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb.”
How are we coping with the stress and the strain of our lives? Who is our hope? Who is out help? In whom are we placing our trust? Who is our refuge? To whom are we running, in times of need? Let us, like David, and all the other heroes of faith, *run to the LORD, our compassionate High Priest,* who is a sure help, and our only hope…
– “14 Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession. 15 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. 16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” – Hebrews 4:14-16
"He that was our Help from our birth, ought to be our Hope from our youth. Let none expect ease or comfort from the world. Those who love the Lord, often are hated and persecuted; men wondered at for their principles and conduct; but the Lord has been their strong refuge. The faithful servants of God may be assured that he will not cast them off in old age, nor forsake them when their strength fails."
