Just like the seasons in a year, so also, the variety of people in life. Some are bright and brilliant. Some are extremely talented. Some are so very skilful. Some are absolute gems. Some others are dumb. Some are foolish. Some are idiots. Some others ignorant. Apart from these two distinct categories, there is group of people, who are called, the “SIMPLETONS” – who are, most of the time, categorised as dumb, foolish, idiots, ignorant and naive.
As long as the heart, hands and the head of the person is clean, the LORD will take care of, all our personality’s shortcomings. He will stand with us, and will uphold us with His, righteous right hand. This is precisely what the Psalmist says in Psalm 116:6…
– “6 The LORD preserves the simple; I was brought low, and He saved me.”
The LORD cares for the simple minded, and the plain hearted people. The LORD Himself will preserve them. They may suffer, and may not be able to withstand the guiles and the pressures of the world. However, the LORD will stand with such “simpletons” and will save them.
Albert Barnes [1798-1870] observes and comments thus on Psalm 11:6:6 – “The Lord preserveth the simple – The Septuagint renders this “babes” – νήπια nēpia. The Hebrew word has reference to simplicity or folly, as in Proverbs 1:22…The verb from which the word is derived – פתה pâthâh – means to open, to expand; then, to be open, frank, ingenuous, easily persuaded or enticed. Thus it may express either the idea of being simple in the sense of being foolish, easily seduced and led astray; or, simple in the sense of being open, frank, ingenuous, trustful, sincere. The latter is evidently its meaning here.”
Let us lose not our heart, if we find ourselves in, one such situation. Let us continue to faithfully plod for the LORD, who has called us all, out of darkness, into His marvellous light – 1 Peter 2:9-10. The LORD sees the heart of man, our willingness to trust and obey Him, and our availability to His call, and our desire to serve Him faithfully, not so much the “external” standing in this world – be it, physical, mental or otherwise – 1 Samuel 16:7. Even so, the LORD help us to be “SIMPLETONS” and “FOOLS” for Him.
"The Lord preserveth the simple...It refers to one of the characteristics of true piety - that of unsuspecting trust in God. It would describe one who yields readily to truth and duty; one who has singleness of aim in the desire to honour God; one who is without guile, trick, or cunning."
